Insurance is using the basic mathematical assessment of risk as amended by government projections by NOAA among others, https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/ . They can\'t survive the likely catastrophic losses present and near future. It\'s much better for them to pull out in advance instead of taking people\'s premium payments and later defaulting during a disaster.

The average tree burn rate in California is about equal to the average
tree growth rate. In that sense, more CO2 makes trees grow a bit
faster, so they burn more often.

The real problem here is forest management, and too many people
building in forests. We\'re in a cabin in a forest this week, but it\'s
brutally managed for fire safety.

Paradise California is the lesson on doing everything wrong. The grass
and the houses burned and surrounding trees didn\'t. There was no way
out.

Still, it\'s hard and expensive to get fire insurance. We may just do
without.
