That is the problem for relying on other countries for critical items.
They can cut you off and it may take a year or twoto build a factory for
them in your country. If China stops exporting to the US we will be in a
big shortage for many items. Look at the IC shortage . Cars sitting
around waiting on the computer to make them run.

Anyone who relies on China to supply critical components for critical industries gets what they deserve. I don\'t believe for one minute China knows how to make chips. Some idiot American manufacturers like AMD planned to set up a fab plant there and later canceled. And there have been more than a few exposes of tens of billions of $ wasted on corruption and failure to establish businesses in China- the place is a disaster.
There are a bunch of reasons for the chip shortage- the industry has been shortsighted and oversold.

Looks somewhat dated.
There was an interview with a long term semi industry management type, commenting on the CHIPS Act, who said the politicians are completely clueless about what\'s involved in building an industry from scratch, which is what they\'re doing. He said it will be 15 years before they get where they need to be because of the massive amount of experience factor they need to acquire..
