\"We are looking at all the ways of addressing efficiency and performance. This week we are taking action with a relatively small number of global executives and classified employees following our most recent performance calibration. They will be departing the company starting from today.\"

-GM (GM) Chief People Officer Arden Hoffman said to The Detroit News

GM (GM) is investing heavily in EVs, and expects capital spending to total between $11B-13B, which is up from $9B-10B it previously anticipated to spend this year. The automaker is also expected to spend more than the $35B it previously said it would shell out on EVs and AVs starting in 2020 through 2025.

The $2B difference is coming out of layoffs, people are expendable. Notice no mention of how excessive layoffs might affect their ability to achieve whatever it is they\'re after with the additional spending. One thing you can be sure of is their planning is very deeply detailed, thorough, and judicious.

The US auto industry must have changed a lot recently. Their \'judicious\" approach to compact cars, when they finally noticed that US consumers liked them, was to make them progressively bigger.
