GE phone beep sound-batteries need replacing?

I get a constant beep sound,like a warning from a used GE display
speaker phone,model 2-9375G, is this just warning batteries need
replacing?

When the batteries are no longer charging properly, many of these phones
will start beeping. If you have a battery display on the phone, this is a
good option to see what is happening.

If you have a DVM you can try to test the battery. It must be under some
type of load to test it. If you test the batteries without a load on them,
the opened circuit voltage may not be a true indication of the batteries
performance.
