GE 31" TV. No picture

Hi,

I'd love some clues on what to look for. It's a relatively basic set, 3 years
old, with RF and S inputs, neither of which are working (all of a sudden). I
get a plain gray screen, and I know the picture tube is okay, because the TV
menu screen comes up just fine. I figure it's a fuse or something, and it
would be a lot easier (and cheaper) to just get inside the thing and replace
what's wrong. Assuming a relative novice could do this...

Thanks in advance!

Given the total lack of any kind of real troubleshooting information or even
a model number and chassis number, it is clear you are in over your head and
need to take the set in for a proper repair estimate and diagnosis so you
can make an intelligent decision as to whether to have it repaired or not.
BTW it is not a fuse or something like that.

It is very possible that something is changed in the user setup that is
causing the no useable input condition. Check the owners manual and verify
the proper user settings, especially the Tv-Guide settings for use with or
without cable box or vcr if tv has that feature.

Hey Jerk Face,

If I hadn't properly trouble-shooted this, and explored all the possible user
setup problems, and checked the owner's manual, etc., I wouldn't have posted
this query. Go back under your rock.

If anyone has anything *constructive* to suggest, I'd appreciate it!

You didn't post any results of your troubleshooting, voltages, input
and output on IC's, etc.

haven't an understanding of modern electronics, which can be hazardous
to your health if you ventured inside. David was trying to see that

I stand by my statement that you have not posted anything to indicate that
you are capable of doing any kind of troubleshooting inside the set. Your
first posting and this one are clear indications you need to take the set
into a qualified, trained, and experienced technician to properly and SAFELY
diagnose the problem.

You still have not posted any real troubleshooting information, user or
otherwise.
Or even the most important information like model number, features of the tv
set, connection configuration, and user menu settings you have confirmed.

Well, I call Mr. MacIntyre "Trapper" sometimes after the character of one of my
favorite shows, but he's gotten over that one too.....

So, you liked "Trapper John, M.D.", did you? One of Pernell Roberts'
finest roles. LOL
