An unusually bright and long-lasting pulse of high-energy radiation swept over Earth Sunday, October 9, captivating astronomers around the world. The intense emission came from a gamma-ray burst (GRB) – the most powerful class of explosions in the universe – that ranks among the most luminous events known.

There\'s probably much, much bigger stuff on the way that will vaporize the planet in a flash.

Ever cheerful!

We\'re lucky to live in the boring burbs of our galaxy. Nothing ever
happens around here.

You obviously have no clue how our moon was formed, much less how
many collisions with it and our earth have happened since, much less
their frequency.
We are lucky to live... period.

Probably not, but there\'s been quite a lot of work done one how the moon might have come into being. and there\'s now only one particularly plausible hypothesis.

Being there at the time would have been tricky.

For something occurring half way across the universe it was briefly
visible to the naked eye if you were looking in the right direction.

One of the survey instruments caught it in the optical. It isn\'t the
first such object either this one seen in 2008:

The key takeaway of the remark was about being impacted, Johnny.
Try to keep up and refrain from making yourself look even more stupid
by spouting retarded Johnny remarks.

Seems we had \"Johnnys\" long before \"male Karens\", but there damn sure
is a heavy similarity.

You do seem to enjoy advertising your ill-informed ignorance. It is sort of amusing, in small doses, but you\'ve been doing here for more that twenty years, and the novelty has worn off.
