FREEWARE signal generator

Just a note to let everyone know that my DaqGen FREEWARE
Win32 real-time signal generator is finally available at
<www.daqarta.com>.

The self-extracting DGSetup.exe is only 227 KBytes and is
super-simple to use. It won't mess with your Windows registry,
nor install adware, spyware, or anything else.

DaqGen will generate an enormous variety of waveforms in
real-time, with full control over amplitude and frequency
and with lots of modulation options. It can create up
to 4 independent streams per channel (Left and Right),
and you can even use one stream to modulate another.

There's more info on the Website, plus DaqGen includes
an extensive Windows Help system with detailed context
help via right-clicking on any control.

I'd be glad to answer any questions, and would welcome
feedback from this group.

Does it make any connection to the computer hardware for I/O
operations, or is just something graphical on the monitor?

Sound card apparently.

The help is designed with "black on default" colors. Since I use black
as default background, all text is completely invisible.

The install program has the same problem with the option boxes.

If it uses the soundcard to output these waveforms, is there any intent to
have a Linux version in the future?

Uses any Windows sound card. The graphical output is simply
to allow you to see what the sound output waveform or
spectrum looks like.

No plans for a Linux version at this time, but I'm not
ruling it out. Next priority is to use the sound card
inputs to analyze incoming sounds, like my present
Daqarta for DOS does. Hoping to have Daqarta
for Windows ready mid-2004. I'll keep the group
posted.

Well, I must say this is one I never thought of! There is a
standard option in Windows Help under Options to
"Use System Colors". Does this solve your problem?
(Or can you even find it in the dark?) I don't know
about what options the programmer has for controlling
Help background, but I'll look into it. Do you have
this problem on a lot of other software?

Thanks for the feedback!

No, it makes no difference.

"A lot" is both a relative and subjective term, but yes, it is a
considerable problem. Web pages, though, are even worse. Fortunately,
IE allows overriding the system colors, so many of the problems are
worked around that way.

I contacted Forté (they make the "Agent" newsreader) about exactly the
same problem as yours, with a Windows HLP file. They promptly fixed
it, so it is possible.

The general rule is that the programmer must either control *both*
foreground and background color, or he must leave *both* default.

Great program, Bob - those modulation options seem a rather fun thing to play
with. :)

A suggestion I give is being able to save the output signal in .wav format. This
would be useful to generate all sorts of signals for usage in LTSpice. :)

That's the puzzling thing... both *are* left at default!

In order that I can experiment with your problem,
can you tell me exactly what system colors you changed,
especially the text color? Did you set Display Properties -
Appearance - Item to Window and then set the color
next to it to black and the Text color below that to white?

Thanks!

Definitely on the "to do" list already!
