I would like to be able to take a schematic- which can be already be in jpg
format from the web or drawn with a program if necessary- and have it
converted into a pcb layout. The layout can either be Vectorboard or
standard pcb. Is there any freeware that will do this?

Thanks,
Greg

Magically? No. Packages like gEDA or Kicad do provide the tools you
need to do it yourself, though - a schematic capture tool to edit the
schematic, and a pcb layout tool to design the board.

Also, gEDA's PCB can take a manually-edited netlist and manually added
parts from the core library, and let you design a board without
needing to re-capture the schematics, if the circuit is simple enough.

If you MUST post the SAME question to MULTIPLE groups,
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=layout&enc_author=eVI9jQ4AAABLqFvsEVTt0Ld1btV2rxEL&scoring=d&filter=0&num=100
do this:

First, you realize that THIS ISN'T GOOGLE GROUPS. Right?
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:3uMiDBcerS8J:en.wikilib.com/wiki/Usenet+follow-Usenet-customs-and-*-rules+*-a-service-for-*-*-*-*+hide-the-fact-*-*-*-they-are-*-on-Usenet+concerns-*-*-*-*-about-the-Google-interface+what.is.wrong+*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-is-now-legendary+*-*-savvy+Google-cannot-muster-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*+*-*-policed&strip=1#Web_interfaces

It's generally easy to spot moderated Usenet groups.
Almost without exception, *moderated* appears in their names.
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:3uMiDBcerS8J:en.wikilib.com/wiki/Usenet+Unmoderated+Disclaimers+majority+moderated+minority#Moderated_and_unmoderated_newsgroups

In addition, the traffic at moderated groups is sparce.
For those whose sensibilities are easily bruised,
Web-based forums are advised instead of Usenet.

People who actually READ the groups for a while BEFORE posting
can see how to do things properly--and how NOT to do things.
