Just FYI, the free WebPack 6.1i is now available and supports the Spartan-3
XC3S50, XC3S200, and the XC3S400. Also, the XC3S50 supported in WebPack
6.1i has four 18K block RAMs, four 18x18=36 hardware multipliers, and two
Digital Clock Managers (DCMs)

Hi Steven,

I've noticed that the WebPack software only runs on a Windows system.
Is there any chance that it will be released for Linux some day? I
usually don't work on de Windows platform, so it is annoying me like
hell, being forced to use it...

I have actually purchased A Xilinx kit thinking that linux version
of webpack would be available.

I do not have Windows installed on my system.

Is there any plan to release webpack for Linux users? I am hoping
Xilinx would release one very soon.

I heard that the next version of webpack. scheduled sometimes next year,
should support Redhead. Meanwhile, try running webpack with a recent, well
configured Wine

Yes, I have "heard" this too. But... is there somebody from Xilinx
that can [officially] confirm this?

Actually, in my company the only missing EDA link for Windows - Linux
shift is Xilinx ISE. ;O( I don't care very much for a release date
--if there really is a Linux ISE coming that would be a relief and
will let us plan things accordingly.

long wait.

As a wild guess, maybe Xilinx wants to use their (probably somewhat more
savy) ISE customers to find bugs, before releasing Webpack.

What window library does Xilinx use for ISE under Linux? Are they
using MainWin? If so Xilinx would have to pay a license fee for every
Linux version they sell or give away. If this is the case I would not
expect a Linux Webpack since they would loose money on each download.

The Linux version of WebPACK is not scheduled, but as I posted in June,
it will probably be in our 7.1 release (Sept '04).

We use Bristol to get our Windows GUIs working on Solaris and Linux and
yes, we do pay a royalty per seat.

For now, Linux users will have to use Wine or purchase ISE BaseX.

Yeah, but one would imagine that they would _make back that money when
the customer buys chips!_

Isn't that the reason the software exists?????
