Free UPS to good home !

I have an old SOLA 1200VA UPS cluttering up my shed. The batteries are
definitely dead. The unit itself shows no sign of life, but I don't
know whether this is because of dead batteries or another fault.

When I acquired it, it worked but batteries were almost finished. It
has been sitting idle for a couple of years.

Anyone who wants it will have to pick it up - I am in Perth, Western
Australia.

Either post a message here or email me on
dgoldfinch@BLOBmsn.BLOB.com.au, removing the obvious.

On another subject, does anyone local have an AC power conditioner
they want to get rid of ? I am looking for something small to run a PC
& peripherals off one of those little $98 gensets from Bunnings - they
really are remarkable value for money but ,as you would expect voltage
regulation is pretty poor. Lightly loaded, the AC voltage heads to
260V.

Um, if you get your UPS working, it would probably do the best job of
filtering the AC line from the genset. Many UPSs have over and under voltage
protection. Perhaps try a new battery?

If it is the Sola unit I'm familiar with, it uses five 12v7Ah SLA's. The
charging circuit is optimised for quick recovery after discharge, not for
battery longevity. Asa result, they are costly to keep in service.

But you're right about them providing the best filtering/regulation.
