Hi all,
I have purchased a 1989 Ford Fairmont and the car radio does not work. The
radio (AWA, Part No. PU-9200A) is Security Coded and the previous owner
never knew what it was. Is there a way of finding out the code for this
radio and how to unlock it.

Cheers

Ian

The information to do this is sometimes in the owner's manual. Failing
that, the dealer can usually do this, but (with what dealers charge) it may
be cheaper to purchase an up to date CD head unit.

Cheers,
Alf

the factory unit would have a better tuner in it.

i've recently purchased an aftermarket cd/mp3 player, and i'll be using it
with a factory unit because i've tested it and the tuner isn''t good too
much electronic noise

asuming records are still kept for a car of this vintage, with modern fords,
you just have to visit the dealership, give them the VIN number give them ID
and they get the code off there national network database. which includes
all the previous work done to the vehicle aswell.

**Dream on. Factory stereos are always the cheapest available.

**Then you've done something wrong, or you've purchased an unbelievably
crappy unit. I dumped my $900.00 Eurovox cassette/radio for a $280.00 JVC
CD/MP3/radio. The thing is simply amazing. The radio section blows away the
Eurovox and the OEM stereo, GMH fitted to it. I even managed to pick up 2WS
FM outside Canberra. No electrical noise, whatsoever.
