twin 36watt fluoro with plastic diffuser, made in china.

when switched OFF, you can run your hand along the plastic diffuser and the
tubes flicker.

what the fuck?!

possibly the house wiring is incorrect for this light and the neutral is
switched for this light rather than the active, will have to check it out.

thats whats happening.

Static electricity has that effect of fluorescent tubes...take one out of
its fixture and try it any time you can build a static charge.

When I was a teenager the local council sited the refuse tip at the end of
the industrial estate with the 400kV national grid pylons running through a
field just beyond that.

A gang of us used to regularly skip raid all the flouro tubes we could find
and stick them in the mud under the overhead cables - quite a spectacle for
passengers on the rail line that ran past the industrial estate.

(wonder where the mercury ended up when the farmer ploughed them in?!).

Oh, Im sure that he disposed of it in some sickeningly green way :)

Did he grow corn, vegies, ie: foods that people ate without much
processing involved ?

Tried it once on side of the highway under some unusually low hanging
330kv lines and a 30w tube. it was difficult to get it to light,
needed to hold it in a precise place a couple of centimetres from the
end to get it to light at all, even then it wasn't very bright.

might be dry soil there or something ?
