Fluke 8060A Suddenly Not Working

I have a Fluke 8060A (True RMS) DMM.

I turned it on the other day, and nothing happened, so I changed the
battery, and when that didn't work, I tried another fuse to no avail.
There is nothing on the screen at all.

Does anyone have any ideas on anything else I can try, and tell me if
it is worth it to try to get it repaired? Or should I just toss it and
get a cheap DMM?(That way when it breaks, I won't be out of a lot).

Fluke is one of the best available. I would call Fluke directly and enquire
about servicing it properly. Their service rates are reasonable, especially
when you see how much the cost to buy.

That's a nice meter......and very accurate. I think I bought my two for

about $450 or so. In any event, I would just send it to them. Last time I
sent one of mine out it cost $150 and it comes back calibrated in a few
weeks or so. You could fix it yourself, but unless it is something simple,
you may have to recalibrate it. Unless you are so equipped for that....well
I guess you got the picture....

open chassis and w/ohm meter checkcotinuity from pos side of battery

until open circuit is found. also possible ringout gnd side circuit
and/or traces. possible cold solder or open resistor. If all else
fails, a reputable repair center (who is actually qualified) is Peach
state Instrument Co in Marietta Georgia phone 770 424 0447. If you
find open resistors (they're precision value) peachstate will probably
give you the value but will definitley sale the parts. Ask for Dana.
He's an old timer who knows these units very well

Its got 9Vbatterycontact-itis. :)

Try replacing the 9V holder and see if it starts working again.

It seems that what it costs repair one of these units, can more
logically be used to buy several cheap, new DMMs.

How old is the meter....fluke has a very good repair policy.

Thanks for the advice.

It's probably cold solder.

Nevertheless, I'll look into replacing the battery holder , and then
the next step would be calling up the repair center(if I determine it
is worth it).

Service Manuals. I can also email you a separate (military)
calibration procedure manual for the Fluke 8060A, if you want it.

The 8060A service manuals (two versions available: about 140 pages/5.7
MB (PDFs) each; one is for the 300V version of 8060A) do include a
troubleshooting section, full schematics, theory of operation,
maintenance, calibration, etc etc.

I do have a Fluke 8060A True-RMS Multimeter manual for mine which is I
believe a 1000V.

But would I have any use for a calibration procedure manual, since
I've never even seen the inside of a multi-meter?
