fit a standard PC power supply into a 19" rack

I can't fit a standard PC power supply into a 19" rack enclosure that I
have(it's only about 1.5" high). Where can I source a low profile AC/DC
power supply that will fit into this enclosure? Also, the fan cutouts on
the enclosure are near the right side on the rear panel, so the fan on the
power supply would need to mate with this cutout.

Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Jameco (www.jameco.com) has a large selection of power supplies. They
might be able to help you out.

Hope this helps

Oftentimes all units on a rack are powered by a 1U or 2U independent
power supply. What you're calling 1.5" high is actually 1.75" high, and
that is 1U (no I don't know what "U" stands for, other than perhaps
"unit"). 2U, as you might imagine, is 3.5" high. You'll be looking for
power supplies described in those terms. Jameco is a reseller, like
Mouser, and their prices are quite high (also like Mouser). Just do a
search for "1U" and "power supply".

Depending on your current requirements and quantity needs, http://www.MPJA
..com might have some surplus units inexpensively.

Many standard PSUs are this size if you remove the case, and bend thee
heatsinks over.

What are your power requirements? What will you be running from this
power supply, a PC motherboard or something else?

There are some low profile power supplies available at:

Google says you need a 1U power power supply....

Bob,

My suggestion. Don't worry about the power supply. I've used
Protocase (I think it's www.protocase.com) to build custom rack
enclosures. They'll do any height to accomodate your power supply and
will put whatever cutouts you need wherever you need them. Price is
reasonable and they're quick. It only takes a couple of days to get
my enclosures done.
