Finding maximum current?

Hi..
can anyone help mi with design for following device:
- I have solar panel
- I have DC motor for rotating the panel
- Want to rotate it to find maximal output current for charging the
batteries
- Device should be capable to find maximum outut voltage from panel and to
positioning panel at that position.
Does anyone have some shematic or useful link for that?

Maximum tracking is done with a control loop that has noise inserted.
But instead of keeping the motors busy, there are better ways
to set the position.
But before tracking the position, do you have a switcher to
optimize the impedance ?

Add some wobble to the motion and use a PLL to decode it. If there's
more power on the high swing of the wobble, move it up. If there's more
power on the low swing of the wobble, move it down. The sun doesn't
move very quickly so this wobble can be very slow to reduce mechanical
stress.

Use a processor. Plot the curve of optimum direction vs time of day in
mid-season. Offset that curve according to time of year. Position
the panel according to the clock and the curve. You could do a
2-dimensional search for a peak near the proposed position, but I'll
bet you use more power turning the array in the search than you'd gain
in increased output.
Obviously, you could be much more sophisticated in computing the
prediction curves. Optimization is pointless for things that can be
easily predicted.

If you only have one motor, you might want to do something more
complex than a rotation.

I agree with this. You would have to have the panel aimed more than 25
degrees away from the sun to see a 10% loss in available energy. That's a 50
degree window, or about 1/3 of the sky.

You appear to live in Croatia, about 45 degrees north latitude. Your biggest
problem will come in the winter months when the sun gets no more than 22
degrees above the horizon and the daylight hours are short. You will
probably do just as well tilting the panel to face the sun at noon on
December 25 and fix it there.

In the summer, the sun will be as high as 68 degrees above the horizon at
your location. With the panel pointed at 22 degrees above the horizon, you
get a little less than 70% of the available energy. But, the daylight hours
are much longer. Actually, you could gain some summer energy by adjusting
the panel to about 30 degrees above the horizon and it would mean only about
a 1% less energy than the 22 degrees setting, but would increase the summer
input to 78%.

Does this make sense?

I found a schematic of one that uses sensors. Do a Google search on
the title, and when it pops up, click on translate. Or else, run it
thru Babelfish yourself.
