Can someone please tell me what value cap I'd use to allow an rf signal
to be placed on my household wiring while blocking out the 60 Hz
current? tnx.

It depends on the frequency of the RF, on how much RF you want to put
on the wiring, and on the output impedance of your RF source and how
much externally impressed voltage its output can stand before it gets
toasted.

There are regulation as to how much blind current you are
allowed to produce. IMO, 100nF are possible, for more you
may to check the regulations. And no, 600V are by no means
sufficient. Look for the Y-caps, they go up to 2kV+.

There are specific ratings for caps that go on the line -- I believe
they are "X1" and "X2". Digi-Key carries them under "interference
suppression caps", then you can go to the manufacturer's site and see
the "real" specs and get some insight into the ratings.

And they _are_ rated at 600V, but there seems to be a heavy distinction
between a mere 600V cap and an X1 600V cap.
