A 21-YEAR-OLD man must serve a minimum of 23 years in jail after
murdering a gay pensioner in his home.
Marcin Orlowski, a homeless man from Poland, was found guilty of murder
at the Old Bailey yesterday, following a retrial.
Edward Highwood, known to friends as Teddy, suffered extensive head
injuries on the afternoon of July 17 last year after Orlowski struck him
10 times with a heavy vase.
After the killing, Orlowski ransacked his victim's home in Hollymount
Close, Greenwich, stealing electrical items which he then tried to sell
on before fleeing to Brighton.
The following day, July 18, Mr Highwood's body was discovered by his
house-mate who had been away for the night. The vase that was used to
kill him was on the sofa nearby.
The killer, who denied murder, was given a life sentence by Judge
Richard Hawkins.
