No, but it does say they are suitable for category 5 cable and also
suitable for data.
Caliban, why are they not suitable for cat5 networks?

Which is correct (it won't function at cat 5 specs though)

and also suitable for data.
Which is also correct. They would most probably work fine in a 10baseT
network.

Caliban, why are they not suitable for cat5 networks?
The untwisted sections within the terminal block are too long to support
true cat 5 standard networking.

Sweet. So it wasn't false advertising, and only misleading if
misinterpreted.
Having said that, I would have thought from the description that they
would be suitable for cat5 networking. A trap for the newcomers.

Just out of interest, what sort of effects would this have on data tx
(increased error rate for example)? also, whats the physical effects
(mismatched impedence for example)?

Crosstalk becomes an issue whenever the twist is removed for any significant
length. Significant depends on the data speed.

Data throughput would generally be reduced as a result of the increase in
x-talk.

I wouldn't have thought there would be much cross-talk because the wires
would be seperated. I thought cross-talk was only an issue if the wires
ran next to each other.

First off, no matter what they are, it is considered rude to post
advertising in a discussion newsgroup. And secondly, you are posting
this to an international NG (sci.electronics.components) when they
should be advertised only in an AU newsgroup, not here.

Extremely rude - keep your posts in the appropriate NG.

If you have any questions or queries please feel free to ask.

It's more of an issue of an impedance discontinuity. The screws and
washers are a (relatively) huge capacitance.

Its not extremely rude. Calling you a turd-burglar, would be extremely rude
