externalizing GPS antenna

Got a Garmin Etrex - I want to put it on a goat's collar. Track where
they go all day. Since satellite acquisition through body parts is poor I
want to extend the antenna to the top of the collar. Needless to say the
unit does not have a jack to connect an external antenna, so I'll have to
go in there and hack. Unless something could be "inducted"...
Assuming I find a point for an antenna to connect to (with a corresponding
"ground") - I'd run coax to the device of my making which looks like...
what?

Put a counterweight on the collar, on the opposite side from the receiver,
to keep the receiver on top of the goat. :)

Good Luck!

Make sure it is firmly affixed, be a real pain to track down the item after
the goat rubbed it off under a bush, etc.
