European VCR used in New Zealand

I have a sony slv-e710ux VCR, recently purchased second hand, which I am
having problems tuning.

From what I can gather on the case, it is a European model - so I'm
wondering if the European broadcast spectrum is different to ours, hence
causing this VCR to only tune in NZ UHF frequencies.

If this is true, is there a way of manually lowering the frequency, or is it
all done digitally? Can I perhaps change the RF modulator and get the lower
frequencies?

Cheers for any help,
Jono

The frequency bands are only one of the differences. There is also the IF
bandwidths and the type of demodulation required. The changes require are
much more complex than a simple tuner change. There is the IF, detectors,
AGC, and some complex firmware differences.

You would be best off getting a converter that puts out baseband A/V video,
and use it as a tuner, providing that the PAL system you are on is
compatible.

if the VCR comes from the UK it will only do UHF and not VHF

also UK has 6.0MHz sound NZ has 5.5MHz sound, apart from those problems
it should work O'Kay.
