has developed noise in the right speaker. it has already been switched to
110. the plugs only have two prongs and an adapter is used. may have picked
up some static. is this the possible problem? it worked fine for the first
two weeks and screwed up when a tape deck was connected.

Hi there,

sounds to me like you have contracted a ground interference via the cassette
deck connection.
As European low-power devices have no ground prong (usually), their input
jack local ground may float at some potential. If you are using a cable that
has its shielding connected to both sides current can flow on the shielding
which may induce humming or crackling noises.
I do not know a definite solution for this problem. If the noise disappears
when you disconnect the cable this is the reason, otherwise you may have an
electronic fault.
A suggestion is to insert a larger capacitor into the shielding of the cable
to block direct current.
