Eti 4000 speakers

Guest
I think they had kef drivers the woofer was reported as being nearly perfect in the low frequency range. They were reported to hold their own as reference speakers. Unless you are playing good vinal or top tape recordings from the same era you wouldn't get any advantage cds and mp3 or 4 wouldn't be worth the effort. Cd and mp3 etc are not good at all.
My system uses a 3 way top speaker and a subwoofer it cost me $10.00, at the opp shop and sounds great. I used to have the magazine but lost it.

** IIRC, ETI 4000 speakers use only Philips drivers - never KEF.

They were reported to hold their own as reference speakers.

** Oh really ?

** Well - for that sort of money it would need to.

I used to have the magazine but lost it.

** I guess the same goes for once having a clue?

No in some cases as in project 495 transmission line speakers they ended up using kef b139 also one driver was a celestion
As written in the eti 30 audio projects. You are correct they only used phillips in their monthly magazines. If you are interested in the article i can copy it and mail it to you.

**Nope. Philips drivers and nope, they were far from perfect. They were
OK though.

**Compared to what?

**Huh? Oh, you mean vinyl. 16/44 digital (aka: CDs) have clear
advantages over all vinyl recordings. MP3, not so much.

Cd and mp3 etc are not
> good at all.

**You need to get out more. 16/44 digital is capable of excellent
performance. IF you used a $10k turntable and brand new vinyl and used
ONLY 'direct disk' LPs, then, maybe, a case could be argued that in a
minuscule number of areas, that the vinyl might be a little better.
Everywhere else, 16/44 digital wins hands down.

**Yeah, you've lost the plot too.

.... along with your golden ear it seems.

Oh well I guess that has the benefit that you don't have to worry about
music formats or the quality of the playback equipment anymore.

Clearly you don't play vinyl disks.
The origional developers of cd hardware compressed the sound to save money by leaving out one chip. The developers of cd format was a joint venture between phillips and pioneer. If you dispute this you haven't read eti publications either.
For a good vinal a top analogue system will be needed. Unless you are just interested in loud base in wich case you totally miss the point

** ROTFL - wot is this fool on about?

The developers of cd format was a joint venture between Phillips

** Wrong and wrong.

The CD disk and signal format was developed primarily by Philips who brought Sony in as co-developers. ETI covered it in detail at the time.

Get a life you moron. If people in this place are all like you then not worth my time you are the one who has no idea. To hell with this site and losers like you. My information is accurate. And as for the occasional spelling what of itm fuck off dickhead

Phil the dill don't care who he claims to be or know he is just an ignorant dickhead. To be rude like you shows just how much you don't know. Signing off maintain your stupitity on a sinking ship of losers i am reading the eti article as i type. I have been doing electronics for over 50 years whats your claim. Probably an editor in a worthless company.

**Really? Wht chip would that be? How much compression does the CD
format entail? Presumably, you can supply further information to back
this claim?

The developers of cd format was a joint venture between phillips and
pioneer.

**Philips and Sony.

If you dispute this you haven't read eti publications
> either.

**I have every ETI magazine ever published. I've read them all.

For a good vinal a top analogue system will be needed.

**Duh. Such a system, regardless of cost, will still lose out to CD in
many important areas.

Unless
you are just interested in loud base in wich case you totally miss
the point

**I suggest you ask yourself one question:

On modern vinyl recordings (ie: Anything produced after 1980-ish), how
was the music mastered?

Prior to that time, most music was mastered on analogue tape.
Afterwards, it was all digital.

As I previously stated: If you start with the very finest analogue LPs
available (so-called 'Direct Disk' recordings) and a very fine
turntable, arm and cartridge, then and only then, can you achieve a
small number of advantages over a decent CD player. And then, of course,
the LP wears out as soon as you start playing it... In all the important
metrics, CD clobbers vinyl every time. Even the very finest LPs.

Wow so much wrong here .... Facts and spelling. Hardly worth further
discourse with one so ill-informed and educated methinks.
