etax broke

[amstereo-matt2]

tryna get etax to work, got all the way through, but it wont let this thing
go, see, it wants a sequence number which only exists if tax-return was
lodgeds previously, see i'm doing this for my sister, but it wont work,
cause this is her first tax return and she doesn't have a sequence number.
so what part of the s/w is stopping this? ta.

Well have you asked the etax website ?? I notice (having perhaps the few
seconds you seem to lack) that a google search offers "free answers to your
tax questions"

If you had read the destructions (of which there are many) you would
know that she has to:

1. Apply for a tax file number
2. Manually lodge the first return

You can print it out.

is lacking,rather ,it is 59 minutes in the hour.

Ring there help line, its in the help file under lodgment.

I did it, and they helped me and it's all been done now.

mind you, I have had a previous tax return but I've always thrown out the
"notice of assessment"

Either way, call them. Actually, it'll have to be the persons tax your doing
that calls.

To lodge electronically, you will need to obtain a password from the ATO.
You will be asked to provide information that will allow the ATO to verify
your identity over the internet. When you have successfully matched your
details against the ATO's database, you will be issued with a password.

STEP 1 Eligibility

You are eligible to obtain a password from the ATO.
If you:

7 lodged a tax return for any of the previous five years (1998 to 2002)

7 lodged a refund of imputation credits application for any of the
previous
two years (2001 to 2002), or

7 lodged a baby bonus claim for 2002

to verify your identity, you will need any of the notices of assessment
from
these years provided it issued before 1 June 2003.

If you:

7 have not lodged a tax return before

you will need your tax file number. Your tax file number must have been
notified to you before 1 June 2003.

see, i (apparently) can do it this way, it just wont let me. you click the
lodgment button then it sits there whinging that i need a sequence number,
i
used the program for myself lastyear, and it worked (was my first tax
return
to)
so i dunno whats going on here.

It's designed to work that way, and it says that (as I recall). If you
don't have a sequence number by having manually submitted a return
before, you can't use E-tax.
