ErgoPro Monitor Case removal

My Fujitsu ErgoPro x174a monitor just started arcing inside.
Happens every time I switch on.

I can probably fix it if I can get into it....

I am trying to remove the outer case so as to investigate further.
I removed the two Philips screws at the underside front but the case wont
release and come off. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to remove
the case ?

There are most likely two catches at the topside front, usually a
couple of inches in from each side. With the monitor crt face down on
a cushion or something to prevent crt damage, on some, a thin bread
knife can be slid vertically straight down towards the front of the
main crt bezel and with a little jiggling/tapping (on
bezel/case)/prying the latch will spring loose; on others there are
two springy plastic latches that must be pushed horizontally in
towards the crt while lifting with your pushing tool - usually you
will see two slots at the meeting of the crt bezel/main case if this
is the method to use. Sometimes, lifting at the rear where you have
removed your two screws and giving the case a good rap at the front
area where the catches are will free the cathches. Some may require a
special tool or other technique.

There are two slots on the left and right side where the case meets the crt
bezel. Have tried pushing knife blade in but it still wont release. Do I
have to squeeze the case inwards where those slots are ?

I am not familiar with this specific monitor and so do not know

exactly what type of catch mechanism it employs, but a 17" KDS monitor
I have done recently has two slots about 3/8" wide and allowed me to
push in horizontally a small flat file the same width and about 1/16"
thick. I had to lift on the file (and so on the case), right at the
bezel/case surface, while pushing in to release the catch, all the
while ensuring that the case lay flat on the crt bezel all around its
perimeter - found that lifting on the rear of the case at the same
time where I removed the two screws would not allow the catch(es) to
release at the front. It did take some diddling to push in the file
while lifting, and the when one catch was released I needed a second
set of hands to hold the main case off the first (now released) catch
and as level as possible all around, to be able to then release the
second catch. I was unable to do the job by myself alone.

The EHT transformer in my Fujitsu ErgoPro x174a monitor is arcing. There
is no heavy dust on the transformer just a fine film which came off with
Kleenex paper. The arcing seems to be between two areas of the plastic
case of the transformer. I cant see any imperfections in the plastic in the
arcing area. Even after wiping away the fine film there is still arcing.
I tried using a small amount of Isopropil to clean the arcing area but no
joy. I think it may be difficult to find a replacement transformer.. Does
anyone have any tips I could try ?

I seem to remember there is some grease or other compound that you can use
which may stop the arcing or am I dreaming ?

This is a great monitor with Trinitron CRT and in very clean condition... be
great to fix it.

So how did you finally get the main case off?

Just like you said Wayne... thanks for the info... it came off easily.
I used a kitchen knife for the slots.

There is something called High-voltage putty that may work. Try the
local electronics or TV repair stores. I have also heard of using
silicone rubber for high voltage repairs.
In my opinion, these are just temporary fixes. You will have to replace
the flyback to get a good repair.
