Emerson TV - picture jumps, vibrates ...

I have a 10 year old 25" Emerson TV that I like a lot. Sound is ok. The
problem is the picture. The picture sometimes jumps, or vibrates. It's not
continuous but random. The picture is still viewable but quite annoying. The
sound is never distorted. All antenna connections have been checked.

I suspect a capacitor is deteriorating but not sure. Any ideas?

I guess the better choice of words is flickering instead of picture jumps or
vibrates.

In addition, the white colors appear slightly yellowish. Other colors appear
ok.

Caiaphas:
If you are hoping for anything specific you really need to post the MODEL
NUMBER..... as you obviously already know, Emerson has built lots of
different models of televisions with circuitry and parts layout that is
unique to each specific model..... ALWAYS post the model number....
The place to begin your troubleshooting effort would be to verify that the
main power supply is regulating the B+ properly. ESR check all the
electrolytics in the PS, flyback derived B+ sources, and the vertical
deflection circuitry. Check the solder connections around and near the
high heat producing components such as low-ohm power resistors, power
transistors and chips, diodes, etc.... look for cracked, dry, or otherwise
faulty joints.
If you are not certain what to do next you should go to the website for this
newsgroup at
http://www.repairfaq.org/
There, with some search time, you will find a wealth of troubleshooting
tips, repair procedures, component testing methods and IMPORTANT safety
information that will help you stay away from dangerous and lethal
electrical shock hazards inside your television..... note that these hazards
can still be present even when the television is turned off and unplugged
from the AC power.... be very careful.
If, after reading through the repairfaq, you are still not certain how to
proceed, and you don't have the proper and necessary equipment, and you do
not possess the needed electronics knowledge and repair experience.... you
would be best advised to take your television to a service shop for a proper
and safe repair.... or at the very least you should TAKE it to a service
shop so you can obtain a repair cost estimate so you can make an intelligent
repair decision with facts instead of internet or telephone guesses.

Thanks. My TV is an Emerson model TS2587D. It is over 10 years old and
probably not worth spending to repair unless I can figure out how to fix it
myself.

From your description I would suspect solder joints on the neck board, you
may as well have a look, though beyond resoldering cracked joints there's
not much you can do without more general diagnostic knowledge.

Caiaphas:
My previous reply post to you outlined the suggested diagnostic and
troubleshooting steps you should take. ..... and also the repairfaq
website for this newsgroup with some very good and helpful information. If
you are still not certain how to proceed with the repair of your Emerson TV
after reading through the troubleshooting suggestions and reading through
all the information at http://www.repairfaq.org/ , then I would very
strongly suggest that you TAKE your television to a service shop for a
proper and SAFE repair.
