If you are ever in Hong Kong, apart from the three main computer stores -
and these have to be seen to be believed -there is a very good 'Jaycar' type
store (without the stupid 'toys' ) that sells components, IC's, home-brew
electronics components and an excellent range of test equipment at duty and
tax free prices, including Fluke, Uni-T etc.

WECL Electronics Specialist
G/F & 1/F
Ming Chu Building
195-201 Apliu Street
Sham Shui Po,
Kowloon, HK

Unfortunately they do not do overseas shipping.

Mong Kok Computer Centre
Right alongside the Mong Kok MTR (Rail) Station

Golden Computer Arcade
Right alongside the Sham Shui Po MTR (Rail) Station
Also make sure you visit ApLiu Street shops in addition to the
electronics shop mentioned in my first post.

Wan Chai Computer Centre
Right alongside the Wan Chai MTR (Rail) Station
(This one is on Hong Kong Island)

I have been to all of them covering many trips over many years.
At the present I feel the Golden Computer Arcade has the best prices.

If you havn't been to HKG before it can be a bit difficult to find the
computer centres. Best thing is to ask a teenager. They speak good
english and most know where the computer shops are!

I visited Golden Arcade back in the early 90s, there were little booths
down in the basement where any software could be had for $HK 5.00 per
floppy.

They then progressed to CD's but all of that is now gone.

That brings back memories! I visited Sham Shui Po a lot when I lived in HK.

Indeed. And $5HK = about $1AUD.

And reference manuals for just about anything with some of the pages printed
upside down.
