Electronic symbols for web page

Where could I download all the common symbols in a format that I could use
on a web page?

which is ? (jpg? gif? other?)

I don't need a huge library of specialized parts with manufacturer numbers
etc....just the basic symbols that I can use with my webpage maker software.

I saw a nice true type collection of what I need but that's out of the
question.

Use Paint (if you are running Windoze) and make your own.
