Electric guitar output stereo ?

Hi!
I'm trying tu build an effect for my guitar

and apparently to the output of the guitar im supposed to connect a stereo
jack..tip goes to the battery -9.?! Isn't the output is a mono signal ? im
confused..plz help:)

You're correct. The output from an electric guitar is mono. The circuit is
utilizing a trick in order to keep the battery automatically disconnected
when the plug is removed.

The jack, in that circuit, is stereo (sleeve, ring, and tip). The plug, from
the cable to your guitar, is mono (sleeve and tip, only). The plug's sleeve
is of such length (on a mono plug) that it contacts this stereo jack's ring
(where the "-" side of the battery is connected). So, when the plug is
inserted into the jack the "-" side of the battery is connected to circuit
common.
