EI Transformer Cores

I'm thinking of atempting to roll my own power and output trannys for a
guitar amp. I have an electronics background, but never delved very
deeply into transformer construction.
Does the term "core area" apply to the entire EI frame, or just the part
that goes through the windings?

It's the whole core, not just the center leg.
And it's very tricky to get audio output trannys just right, but for
guitar amps, there's no one perfect value. It's trial and error until
you get the tone you want.
