I've never had any problems with this soldering station until now. I was
noticing I was having trouble suddenly getting solder joints to turn out
right, then a few minutes later I realized the tip of the iron was glowing
red hot! Inside there's a small circuit board, the transistors and diodes
seem to be fine, anyone have this happen?

I don't have service info but would guess the temperature sensor died open
circuit.

Funny thing is after turning it off and back on it's back to normal, wierd
huh? Funny thing is the iron seems to have only 2 wires going to it, perhaps
the heater is used to measure the temperature?

Right, would seem to be no sensor. But then either there is problem with
the power supply - maybe a regulator that is intermittent?

Are you sure the heater is just a heater. Maybe there is a thermostat
inside that stuck closed?

It must have a sensor of some sort, it has a calibrated temperature knob
with a 70w element in the iron, seems without being able to sense the
temperature there's no way it could hold it so steady.
