GENERAL INFORMATION
===================

The Conference will be held at the University of Catania, Italy. Founded
in the 15th century, it was the first university established in Sicily
and one of the oldest in Europe. Today the University of Catania hosts
about 60.000 students.
Catania is the second largest city in Sicily (population over 372,000) and
is situated on the eastern coast, between the Mediterranean Sea and Mount
Etna, the largest and most active volcano in Europe. Founded by Greeks in
the 8th century BC, Catania has numerous architectural remains dating back
to Greek, Roman and Norman ages. Today Catania is a modern commercial city
famous in the world for its magnificent historical centre, mainly built in
Baroque style, which is also the scene of nightlife.

Catania Fontanarossa International Airport has direct connections to many
international destinations and is only 3 km (10 minutes by bus) from
Catania City Centre.

The weather in June/July is generally warm and sunny, promising you a
pleasant stay. Starting from Catania, a number of interesting historical
sites and cultural destinations are easily reachable by highways and public
transport. Catania is surrounded by wonderful landscapes, close to the
city are
sandy beaches, hiking on Mt. Etna will be a magnificent experience in
contact
with nature.
