DVD ROM problems

I have a Pacific Digital 16X DVD ROM IDE internal drive. I have only used
it about 30 times. I have had it for a few years. The problem is that it
can read CD's fine but says insert disk when you try and read a DVD. I am
running XP. Pacific Digital says it might be broken. Can a drive break
like this? Where it can read a CD but not a DVD?

Yes, a drive can break like that. When two lasers are used, it is possible
for one of them to fail.
