DVD player reads everything but DVDs

I have a Kenwood DV-505 DVD/CD player that suddently decided to stop reading
DVDs. It still reads CDs VCDs CDRW, etc. Try to read a DVD and it will go
to some odd chapter, and sit there doing nothing. Or, it will continually
change discs looking for something it can read.

From what I've gathered it sounds like it's the pickup, and not worth
fixing, but I'm hoping maybe someone can give me a miracle solution.
Anyone?

Thanks!
Clinton.

I vote pickup.

I would check the performance of the laser assembly.

i.e. the pickup, which others have suggested and I agree with.

Clinton,

I'd try cleaning it fairly thoroughly. Dust is death on CD/DVD
players.

Put a meticulously clean CD or DVD in the player, and then check the
CD/DVD disc once you take it out. If it has dust hanging all over it,
then the player is dirty and needs to be cleaned.

If this doesn't help I'd just buy a new player. They are so cheap
these days.

I retired my old technology DVD player to play MP3 data discs for me.
