DVD pixelating SA-DK2

Hi
I have this unit in for repair. The play back picture is always
pixelating (its not the LASER already tried it). Mainly in the top part of
the pix. The blocks in the upper part of the pix are actually from the
bottom of the pix. Why?
On Event Horizon movie if i pause the pix and step forward ( by continually
pressing pause) every 24th frame is clear and with Braveheart every 15th is
clear. Why?
Also the menu and warning screens at the start are clear (clear meaning free
of pixelation)

Nothing to extrapolate in them either.

I've never looked at a DVD player, nor the schematic for one. Does it have a
memory chip in there which is being used as a frame buffer ? If so, and this is
a guess. It sounds as though you might have a memory fault which is causing the
player to calculate the wrong data ( image ) for display.

From the description, the fault may in fact be a short circuit ( or other
fault ) on a data or address line.
