Duke University purchases the public domain

Clearly, with the G W Bush Republicans in charge, things are going
to hell, see story, http://ibiblio.org/

Duke University, of Durham, North Carolina, purchased the entirety
of the public domain late last evening for a fee of 2.2 trillion
dollars. Sources familiar with the negotiation report that Duke's
reclamation of the public domain is unprecedented. As a result of
the purchase, Duke University is the sole rights-holder to a huge
collection of materials, including the Bible, Shakespeare, Dante,
and Francis Scott Key's The Star Spangled Banner.

Thanks,
- Win

Good grief, nobody's in charge. That's why some stuff still gets done.

OK, there are 6 billion people who form 'the public'. So where is MY
USD366.67?

The good news is that nothing is compulsory.
The bad news is that everything is prohibited.

Don't be ridiculous. It was named after Duke Ellington.

"So," Mickey says to Donald, what's this I hear about that you've been
going around saying Minnie's crazy?"

"Crazy? I never said she was crazy", said Donald, "I said she was
fucking Goofy!"

NOT bad if I may say so. ;-) +$xx!! <--- (Protective
talismanic devices, should THEY prevail.)

Those of you who know the history of the medium by which we communicate may
be celebrating this year, in some small way, the 25th anniversary of
newsgroups. Those of you who enjoy fine wines and know where discussion of
them occurs on newsgroups today (it is reasonably hidden) might have seen
the salute there to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where these selfsame
newsgroups were born. Those of you who have trod the soil of Duke
University will further appreciate the dining opportunities appurtenant
thereto (though gastronomically, of Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham, one is
clearly best).

+ + + $ $ $ <--- further talismanic devices Just In Case.

(Recall the dying priest in _The Omen._ Should M+cros*ft rule the earth,
_horribile dictu,_ the priest's counterparts will seal their rooms with
pages of Kernighan and Ritchie, First Edition, and recite selections from
the online Unix manual. Save Thyself: RTFM.)
