DSL-710A DVD Loader

Anyone have any idea where I can source the above? It is for a Nintaus
9901 DVD player, but the same drive is used in a number of other
players.

It is an ATAPI drive, and although a standard PC DVD-ROM works fine in
it, for ease of fitting I would prefer the correct replacement.

According to BJ Marshall at
http://www.vianet.net.au/~bjmrshll/nintaus_N9901/N9901a.htm, replaced the
DVD -ROM drive with DSL-720A drive.

Thanks eltan, I have seen that page while I was finding out a little bit
about the drive before I even opened it up. I have been able to
temporarily hook up a PC-DVD rom drive and it works fine - it is just
for ease of fitting I would like to source either the 710A or the 720A.
(Of course if they are ridiculously expensive it is not worth the
exercise!)

Hi Oldfatus

Hey.. I have a few Hiteker or Apex DVD players that use the same DVD Drive
that you have in your Unit.
I've found for continued use and by far better reliability , to just install
a standard PC DVD Rom like you have expereimented with.
Installing is not a problem. I basically used the Four Mounting screw slots
on the underside of the DVD Rom, and attached or fixed them via the
underside of the Hiteker Chassis.
With the Use of a battery drill and a file, the whole deal takes just over a
Half and Hour.

Those original DVD Units are really Cheap , and not as reliable.
Ive so far used Panasonic, LG, Samsung Roms, and had good success..

Thanks Ren, and yes, I seem to have come to a brick wall trying to find
the originals anyway. With the Nintaus the drive is a little awkwardly
mounted, but I was able to take a mounting bay out of an old computer,
and cut it down and mount it without any problems.

The only couple of hiccups has been that the drive had to be installed
higher at the back than at the front to be able to pass neatly through
the hole for the tray, and that I will have to fabricate something up to
extend the front of the tray as I am not able to mount the drive far
enough forward to just clip on the proper front from the Nintaus.

All in all it has been a satisfying experiment though - at the price of
new players it is not worth spending a lot of money on it, but mainly
because of the fact it had karaoke which my grandkids use, I thought it
worth the trouble to try and get it going again at minimul cost.
