One for the specialists:

I'm able to get my hand on a dirt cheap TRV-120E camcorder.
I say dirt cheap since the owner dropped it, already had a new miniDV
camcorder and does not want to make the expenses to have it fixed.

But of course, as I said, its damaged.
Could the specialist amoung you take your best shot at the following
description, and give me an indication of 1, the possible defect and
and 2, the repair cost & -ability?

Description:
As I said it was dropped on the floor and it hasn't worked properly
since. When you are recording and looking at the LCD screen, solid
lines appear accross it. When you record this onto a video cassette
you can see the subject you were recording but also the lines.

Thanks

Sounds like the mechanism has been knocked out of alignment, or somethings
got bent. It's very likely going to be an expensive repair.

Fact is that the lines are also visable on the lcd during recording.

I am wrong asuming that this would more suggest a defect in the
optics/mechanics/electronics before the signal is sent to the lcd and
recording mechanism, rather than in the recording mechanism ?

BTW Does anyone know which mechanism is used in the TRV-120E anyway ?
Compared to eg B-Mechanism in TRV65E.

May as well start with the simple things, open it up and look for obviously
loose connectors or cracked boards.

True, but altough I can get it cheap, it's not for free so I was hoping
someone recognised the problem befor I take the gamble to buy it.

As a general rule I don't pay money for broken things, unless I know exactly
what the problem is it's not worth it, and with a dropped item there's no
way of knowing for sure.
