www.arx.com seems to be a dead duck
Lookig for a power tranny for a SS600VC Aussie pizza oven
aka power amp
(Yes i do know about rewinders, but my favourite rewinder
didn't want to know about this one, and there are too many
tertiary windings to slap in an RS doughnut)
cheers

** The correct URL is www.arx.com.au and seems quite alive.

** You may still need to persuade that rewinder of yours.

Yep, they are still alive and kicking, recieved a schematic via fax from
them not too long ago for the ss1200.

Why does that make me immediatly think of the dreaded Jands SR3000
or that other Jands/Miracle beastie with a herd of small mosfets ?

Aussie market.

** What Jands model is that ??

All used Hitachi TO3s AFAIK.

It was either a 4800 or 800 and used a phalanx of Philips
BUK436-100(or may have been 200) plastic SOT-93 mosfets, each with its
own driver devices. Quasi comp style architecture.

ever seen an Audio Assemblers GU15000 or GU20000?

As far as cinema goes, QSC has killed off a lot of the little guys. There
are somewhere in the order of 2000 plus QSC DCA (digital cinema amps) amps
in Australian cinemas now, and under 10 of them have failed that I know of
Australia wide!!!!

In the old days Greater Union and Village used Audio Assemblers, Jands, ARX
and Auditec and probably other stuff that I've not seen here in Victoria.

Fun stuff to fix, one can see how some never lasted, i.e 1000 plus units
having to have caps replaced in the field due to some designer confusing
surge voltage with working voltage. Or mosfets running at their rated
voltage with 4 ohm loads, or stuff that never had thermal protection and
cooling fans that should probably have been rated for 25,000 hours max

Great work creation programs.

Pretty much the same over here - QSC seem to have scooped the pool
and (as the NZ QSC fixit person) I'm glad I don't have to rely on
servicing them for a living. Nice stuff !(though I have my resevations
about the USA series, and their tendency to rot out like an ocean
going 1970 Skoda). Ahhhh the joys of fog juice.

At least ARX are consistent ...the 1200 and 600 were fairly rotten as
well. Didn't blow up too much, but incredibly agricultural
construction. We have one from this side of the ditch thats even
worse.. the ZPE/Jands 4800. Only marginally stable, and liable to
Chernobyl if the zobel network lets go (also the only quasi
complimentary FET design I've ever seen in production), but the all
time dog award in my book has to go to the Carver PT1250 for that
awful power supply.

Mike,

I thought I knew all the ZPE and Jands amplifiers but never
heard of the 4800. Was it only sold in NZ? What mosfets did it use?
More info please.

Regards, Phil "

** You supplied no response then - how about now ?????

Seems the 4800 is not a Jands design at all.
