Just wondered if the TVservice guru from the 60's and 70's is still with us?
I used to read his columns in Radio Electronics eons ago and really enjoyed
them.

He also wrote articles back in the late 40s, in magazines such as Radio
Maintenance.

His book Repairing Electric Guitar Amplifiers was groundbreaking. Pretty much
the beginning of the whole guitar amp DIY industry, which still reprints some of
that book.

He died a few years ago. He is survived by his wife and children (son and
daughter, I think). Radio Electronics (when it was) ran a tribute in one of
their editorials.

That brings up a question. Are there any of the old electronic publications

still around, such as popular electronics which became computer and
electronics, or any other publication of that kind? They are never on any
shelves where I live.

Sorry to say, "No". All but Nuts and Volts have bit the dust, bought the
farm, paid the price, kicked the can, etc, etc, etc. Nuts and Volts has
evolved largely into a robotics magazine, but still has occassional articles
that stir the general interest. No really good test equipment constrction
articles, though, which is what I had rather see than articles on building
battlebots or blinking LED Christmas trees.
There are a couple UK publications, which I can't remember the names of
right now, that are fair, but as I do remember, they don't have really high
quality construction articles for test equipment and audio systems.
I'm afraid that the era of decent electronic magazines has pretty much ended
for us.
