There are zip files from www.rlocman.com.ru that contain files with the
extention "djvu". I have tried everything to open them including Gimp,
NView and others. That I use Linux on my desktop may be a part of the
problem.

Can anyone point me to an application that will open them, or tell me what
type of file it is without quips about Windows v Linux. Thanks in advance.

The best approach with anything like that is to just
drop djvu into google and all will normally be revealed.

The source of all wisdom on file formats, www.wotsit.org, has links to
djvu image files indicating the format is from AT&T. Unfortunately,
the links time out and, in any case, one of them is in djvu format so
you need the plug in to view it.
