Dissolve epoxy glass but not copper?

Guest
Hi!
Is there any chemical substance capable of completely dissolving
epoxy glass, 1.6 mm thick, but not dissolving at all the 35 uM
copper that coats it? (it's a photoetched printed circuit board)

I'm trying to find a cheap way for making stencils.

Thanks!
Antony

Make your stensils on "copper foil" instead of standard PCB board stock. You
cold use self-adhesive foil, or perhaps just plain copper foil and paint the
back to prevent it all from being etched away. If you need a rigid backing
you could use a sheet of plastic and a solvent to remove it later. Or maybe
a sheet a glass and a heat gun to peel the self-adhesive stencil off with.

What composition of materials do you need your stencil to be. Are you
looking to have an FR4/copper clad stencil...pleas inform...thanks, Ross

I can't say that I've ever tried it on epoxy fiberglass board, but the
solvent I use to dissolve epoxy is methylene chloride. It's included in many
common paint removers at your local hardware store. I find that heating it a
bit, maybe about 60C, makes a big difference.
