Hello Mitch,
my old monitor played up like yours for a few weeks
before finally failing completely.
When first switched on, the monitor display was erratic
then became steady after a few minutes, so I didn't
worry about it. Then one morning it wouldn't switch on
at all.

Just for fun, I checked the electrolytic capacitors in the
switch mode power supply with Bob Parker's famous ESR
tester and found seven dodgy capacitors. (Thanks Bob)
Replaced the dodgy looking electrolytic caps that measured
from a few ohms to 15 ohms and the monitor now has a
nice steady display again. I am not saying that your fault
will be the same as mine but it might be a good place to
start looking. Good Luck. Have Fun!
Observe the usual safety precautions.

You can be killed doing stuff like this. "Usual safety precautions" means
don't even touch it unless a) the power is off and unplugged and b) you know
what you're doing and c) you know that monitors/CRTs can preserve a lot of
energy even after the power plug is removed.

I have an identical model monitor that also developed that fault. Eventually
the vertical collapsed altogether. Turned out to be elecros in the vertical
that had leaked onto the pcb and corroded through one of the tracks on the
top of the pcb. Sounds like you may just need to replace the caps and clean
the pcb if the caps have leaked onto it. I can't remember the exact caps
that I replaced, but they were located somewhere near the middle of the main
pcb at the bottom of the monitor.

Hope this helps!
