digital multimeter

I've dug up my old digital multimeter. The display is very weak, can barely
see it. It wasn't like that when I last used it years ago. Yes I know, new
battery. Is this a quick fix?

It needs a new battery.

Try a new battery anyway, but you didn't mention the model. There was a
problem with the LCD display on some early FLUKE digital meters, if the
contrast of the display isn't improved with a new battery then bin it and
get a new meter.

If it is Fluke meter with poor LCD display visibility. Replace the electric
capacitors under display section.

Don't toss a Fluke, those things are great and will last forever. I had the
same problem with mine, I fixed it by cleaning the contact strip to the LCD,
it's been fine ever since. A new one is around $200 so this was well worth
it.

JM:
Geeze man, replace the battery and see if that solves the problem...... it
can't get any simpler than that. If a new battery doesn't solve the dim
display problem I have some other suggestions. Try a new battery and post
the results.

MMmmm !
Sofie was probably right then.

Oh come on, try harder than that.

I already tried two batteries. It's not the battery.

Cool trick on the Flukes. I've done both of my hand helds for the same
reason. The second one I picked up for $20 because of missing display
segments. You gotta love the easy fixes....

I have an old 8060A that started giving me erratic dispays and low bat
signals.
After changing out the battery twice with no success I gave it a
slight flat whack against my work table top(rubber mat) and it's
worked fine ever since.
I have a top of the line Sperry as well as couple of big counter top
DMM's. Not to mention all my old Simpson's but I've gotten to like my
Fluke the most.

Another cool trick is opening up the 'budget' model only to find all
you have to do is cut out the case blanks and add a couple of rubber
buttons to have the (considerably) more expensive 'full featured'
model.

Can you provide more details re. your statement? I bought one of the cheapo
models at JayCar in Paramatta, Australia for basic checks on our boat .
Similar to the $ 2.99 model Harbour Freight sells here. Manual discusses
things like continuity buzzer, low battery indicator, but they are not there,
Thanks in advance,

That's a REALLY cool trick. Care to share a model # ??
