Digital camera 1v5 battery

Do you think it would be ok to replace the two 1.2 volt
rechargeable batteries in my digital camera with two 1.5
volt dry batteries? Anyone tried that? Or possibly two
1.5 v batteries that had partly discharged.

I believe they will work fine

I have had several digital cameras - they work on either.

The recharable batteries that I use ( nickel metal hydride - nmh) are a
little over 1.4 volts when fully charged.

The main concern with "high-current" devices, is current capacity .
Dry cells don't produce the same amp/hour as nimh. The camera may not
run long, or even at all. Get a 1.2V replacement, with an equal or
higher maH rating.

I would bet the 1.2 v batteries are rechargeable, which is normal voltage
for a rechargeable battery. Most of these cameras are made to work with
either standard or rechargeable batteries, and I cant' believe you will do
any harm to your camera using standard batteries. Often, in a pinch, you
have to. Just keep in mind that you probably won't get the same time out of
a standard battery compared to the rechargeable, even though the voltage is
higher.

More often the question I see is, "Can I use a 1.2 v rechargeable battery in
a device that uses standard 1.5 v batteries?" Interesting to see the
question reversed.

One more thing. "Normal" batteries that are 1.5 v slowly drop in voltage as
they are used. Rechargeable batteries that are 1.2 v hold their voltage for
a long time and then drop off quickly. So, the difference in voltage is
usually not an issue as the two batteries average out the same over time.

Furthermore, normal batteries have an extremely long shelf life, while
rechargeables lose their charge over a rather short period of time even if
not used. The only exception to this rule are rechargeable alkalines, but
they have their negative points, too, and don't last long in cameras.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts on my query. Another
question . . .which type of rechargeable batteries are best
for use in portable phones? I bought some used portable
phones and find the rechargeable batteries discharge in no
time , even on standby.
