100 bucks, for a device that only supports the (fairly obsolete)
PIC16F84A? Unless you really short of time, this sounds a bit like a
ripoff. How about http://www.futurlec.com.au/PIC18F458Training.jsp ,
with a better chip, for only 60 bucks?

cheers,

Al

I use the PG2 from www.olimex.com

I bought it from Peter H Anderson in the USA

Cost me $22 all up incl postage to Brisbane.

(It is a JDM style programmer)

Then use icprog (http://www.ic-prog.com/index1.htm) to program it.

Note icprog supports the following PICs

It also supports EEPROM memory and some AVRs (and 8051)

Also see wimpic (http://www.qsl.net/dl4yhf/winpicpr.html) I use it to
program the 16F88

BTW you can build your own programmer if you don't want to buy one.

Also check out Sparkfun's Bootloader and other stuff

Hope that helps,

Depends on what you mean by projects. Serious commercial projects, no good.
This cheap kit programmers are no chop for commercial programming. If you
mean 1-off projects, they are fine.

I dare say that the DSE unit would support more than f84.

Have a look the USB PIC programmers at:
http://www.dontronics.com/diyk128.html

All Australian designed, kept up to date, and not a toy.

128 and 182 will program flash chips only, and 149, 150 will program all of the
