G'day again,

One of the visitors to my website is looking for the notes for a DSE
volume compressor kit, K5621.

Would anyone out there happen to have a copy of them?

That may not help them much unless its a completely discrete design. All of
the popular VG chips I can think of are discontinued.

The DC volume control version of the TDA7052 BTL amplifier can be made to do
the job, mine was loosely based on a CA3080 design that turns up in various
guitar sustain pedals.

The LM13700 may be an option - but I'm not certain that hasn't been
discontinued...................

If they're looking to service a unit they have - the inner workings really
aren't that big a mystery.

There were about 3 or 4 popular chips, and they pre determined the circuit
to some extent - there was some opportunity for "design flair" in the
sampling and gain control voltage circuitry, but that's about it.

Discrete designs used to turn up every once in a while in various hobby
magazines.

decided to build it. However he lost the notes in the meantime. Last I
heard, he was trying to get a reprint of the magazine article from
Silicon Chip.

There are online archives of SC - if Google doesn't find it, FTP might be
worth a try.

I use Napalm FTP for searching and Filezilla to download.

What you need is someone with a collection of old DSE catalogues, find the number and then the other info.

Are you even sure it WAS a magazine project?

library, in NSW they keep a copy of most of that sort magazines printed .
Did it once with a circuit,got the idea from something phil allison said
while giving me a filthy diatribe of abuse without realizing he was helping.
You have to join the library and put an amount of money on your
membership card so that you can use the copy machine after they dig the
magazine up from the depths of the dungeon

I'm not in an Australian state but here in NZ my local library disposes of
its magazines after 5 years (or they did when I was still mobile enough to
make regular library visits). They sell them on a trolley in the foyer for
20c each. I scored 12 issues of Silicon Chip for $2.40 from there once.

The state library is not like a local library it keeps one copy of most
publications for ever for research etc.

He didn't tell me anything but the DSE kit number which wasn't very
informative. That's why I told him to ask SC if they could provide a
reprint.

Maybe he'll tell them which magazine it was in (if it ever was).

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It's good to know what's
available for next time someone asks me something like this.

The list of projects page on the Silicon Chip website includes model
numbers for kits produced, at least by the big retailers. This one
doesn't seem to match anything there though.

Most EPE articles are bought in from SC - couldn't hurt to look.

Thanks for having a look, Kev. I wasn't actually aware that SC has those
lists on their website. I'll remember to check them out next time
someone contacts me about something like this (it happens fairly often).
