Dell (Sony) monitor pincushion fault

I have a 21" Dell D1626HT (Sony chassis SCC L04K A) with severe
pincushioning from the sides. Not able to adjust it with the on-screen
display.

Looked for bulging caps and burned resistors but found none. I don't have a
schematic but I am very familiar with rooting around electronic devices (45
years in TV service.)

Does anyone have a quick clue?

You cannot see visually if the caps are bad in these. You must use an ESR
meter to test the caps, or change them to test them. The caps are known to
give problems in these monitors. Start in the vertical deflection and work
your way through. Also, you will save a lot of grief by doing the ESR tests
in the power supply as well. It is common to find a few dozen bad caps in
these monitors after about 5 to 7 years of use.

What can happen, if the monitor has been used with some bad caps, there is a
chance that the associated semiconductors in their respective circuits may
also be damaged. This will naturally depend on the functions of the caps
involved.

It's probably a bad cap. You will probably need a ESR meter to track it

down.

The D1626HT is a Sony N3 chassis. Common failure in these is CXA2043Q,
which results in many deflection-related faults. There is a download
in the Sony section at this site...

Does the pin control do anything at all? If not, you probably have
something like a shorted pin output transistor. Do you have any idea
which sony model is equivalent to it? When was it made?
