Dell Precision 410 fan

Does anyone know what kind of fan [ case main
behind the CPU(s) ] is in the 410? It has 3 leads
and the system can detect if it's disconnected, so
there must be some kind of sensor in it.

BTW, I'm looking for a cheap source, too. ;-)

TIA,
J.

Almost all of the systems I have seen use run of the mill
fans that the computer shops carry. I would take it to your
local and see what they have. If their answer is unacceptable
then take a few fan measurements and start shopping the
surplus houses like computergeeks.com and hundreds of
others. You could most likely find something in the $3.00
range. The third lead is the tachometer wire that the CPU
uses to sense a dead fan.

measure the length of the side, and measure the height of then fan. Both
measurements should be metric. For example, a common fan is 80mm on the
side and 25mm tall. Just look for a fan with the same measurements that
has a tach lead at any computer shop or computer store. Or call up and
harass dell till they send you a new one. good luck!

Dell spare parts would be happy to sell you a replacement for an exorbitant
charge. Call tech support, ask them to find you the part number for the
fan, and go hunting on ebay.

Thanks for the info -- I know it's the size that counts
(and I actually have an exact same size fan w/2 wires)
but I didn't know the exact purpose of the 3rd wire,
and as matter fact, I don't remember seeing a 3 wire
fan before.

BTW, PC is years out of warranty, so I don't think
harassing Dell will get me a new fan. It's not dead
yet, it just sometimes makes a very irritating squeking
noise.

I already have manufacturers info:
JMC/DA-TECH
0925-12HBTA

12V 0.5A

This a 90 mm fan, so it's not as very common size.
I put some 10W30 oil in it, so it's quiet now.
