any body got an example of a decade counter with a simple explanation that I
can understand?

The starting Question is how much do you know ??? do you understand what a
Flip-Flop is and does ?? and how a Binary Counter works ??

The simple explanation is that a Decade Counter (e.g CD4017) is either a
Binary or Johnson Counter (see
http://www.play-hookey.com/digital/johnson_counter.html) followed by a 1 of
10 decoder - The Johnson Counter is commonly used since it is easier to
decode the output.

Hope this is of Some help - I am assuming a basic knowledge of Digital Logic
including Flip-Flops here.
