I have a 20" Sony kv20ts20 that is dead. Could not turn off with
remote so used manual button. Set will not come on now. There is power
to the set but set is dead. Is this worth repairing ? Is it a repair I
could make. Fairly adept with a soldering iron. Thanks for any advice.

If your "dead" television needs a repair that ".....(you) could make" ,
you would not be asking the kinds of questions you asked and you would have
included in your original posting the pertinent technical information,
initial troubleshooting results, DMM voltage readings, results of component
tests, etc, etc.
It takes a whole lot more that being "fairly adept with a soldering iron" to
fix modern day televisions and consumer electronics equipment. Required
are the obviously needed skills, electronics knowledge, repair experience,
proper test equipment, tools, replacement components, etc, etc.
You should go to the website for this newsgroup at
http://www.repairfaq.org/
There, with some searching, you will find wealth of troubleshooting tips,
repair procedures, component testing methods, and IMPORTANT safety
information that will help you to stay away from dangerous and lethal
electrical shock hazards inside your television.... note that these hazards
may still be present even when the television is turned off and unplugged...
be very careful.
If, after reading the repairfaq, you are still not certain how to proceed,
you would be best advised to take your television to a service shop for a
proper and safe repair..... it would be better for your television and safer
for you. At the very least you should have the shop do a repair cost
estimate so you can make an intelligent repair decision with facts instead
of internet guesses.

Ignore him.

If the set worked well before it failed, have it checked out by a competent
TV service shop. It may be something simple. But it's not something you
can do yourself since troubleshooting will be needed.

That is, assuming, you simply didn't use the manual switch to turn it off and
that overrides the remote.

Also, unplug for a couple minutes to reset it if there was a power glitch
that confused its microbrain.
